Working Scientifically

  • Outwood Institute of Education Conference Centre Tenter Balk Ln, Adwick le Street, Doncaster DN6 7EQ (map)

Science teaching requires students to not only have the knowledge to enable them to develop curiosity about the natural world, but also have an insight into working scientifically.

To fully appreciate the relevance of science to their everyday lives, students need to be able to understand the process of science across the 3 disciplines including the design of experiments, reasoning and arguing using scientific evidence and analysing and interpreting data.

For this to be delivered effectively in practice, it requires knowledge of subject-specific concepts, models, a range of experimental techniques, as well as knowledge of scientific vocabulary and nomenclature.
